The mass rapid transit, popularly abbreviated as MRT, has made transport and locomotion in Singapore a lot easier for everyone. There are different stations already, as others keep adding to that number.
Quite recently on Dec 11, new MRT stations were added to the list of the already existing network. As you may already know, the presence of MRT stations in an area not only influences the locomotion, but also the pricing of real estate. However, it is for a good reason considering the convenience it provides to a resident.
Now, let us walk you through some of the latest MRT stations you can find in Singapore.
Brickland MRT station
Initially, residents within the Brickland area were only able to access interchanges and MRT stations at Chao Chu Kang and Bukit Batok via the newly-introduced SMRT Bus Service 991.
However, the future Brickland MRT station (NS31) on the North-South line, which will be ready by mid-2030 will make travelling easier for those residing in the area.
The Brickland station is located between Chao Chung Kang and the Bukit Gombak stations. It will assist residents of Pavilion Park, Keat Hong, Bukit Batok west and the entire Brickland district in moving around Singapore.
Sungei Kadut MRT station
Those who have been working in the Sungei Kadut Industrial Estate have all along depended on SMRT Bus Service 925, the sole bus service for connecting residents to Kranji, Chao Chu Kang, Marsiling, and Woodlands train stations.
But this new station found between Yew Tee and Kranji stations will help serve all the future developments located in the industrial area. In order to serve the Sungei Kadut station well, the downtown line will be extended from its original terminal, which is found at Bukit Panjang. It will interchange with the North-South line.
By creating this interchange, travelling time is cut down by up to thirty minutes for those residing in the North-Western region. This means an earlier reporting time to work and faster arrival home from the activities of the day. This MRT station will effectively serve commuters that regularly travel to and from Choa Chu Kang, and the upcoming industrial developments such as TimMac, agri-food Innovation Park and the trendspace.
The LTA in Singapore has also communicated about the possibility of adding more stations between the Sungei Kadut and Bukit Panjang stations. This will make it further easier to access areas between these stations and other parts of the country as well. These announcements came amid the launch of the land transport master plan 2040, which took place in the presence of the senior minister of state for transport.
By 2040, the LTA plans on reducing the travelling time for every trip people make up to 20 minutes. For peak-period trips, the duration is expected to be about 45 minutes or less.
Great World MRT station
Another upcoming MRT station worth noting is the Great World MRT station, which is to be found on the Thomson-East Coast line, specifically situated at the boundary of Singapore River and River Valley areas. Completion of the train station is said to be in the year 2021. In other words, it may be a good idea to purchase or invest in a condo in River Valley, such as Starlight Suites to enjoy a luxurious and comfortable lifestyle or rake in profits by renting out your space.
Originally, three names were proposed for this MRT station – ‘Kim Seng’, ‘Great World’, and ‘River Valley’. However, the final decision was to go with ‘Great World MRT’ – named directly after the Great World Shopping Mall, which can be found close by to the train station.
Moreover, Great World MRT is only one station away from Orchard MRT, which is known to be the nation’s most loved shopping district for its luxury brands and quality finds. For the public to easily have access in between the mall and the brand new Great World MRT station easily – there will be a retail link in basement two for ease of convenience. The train station can also be accessed via level one, as well as the pedestrian overhead bridge on level two.
With that being said, residents of Starlight Suites will be able to enjoy better convenience in time to come – seeing that the accessible train station will take you to many other areas such as Outram Park, only being two stations away, and Botanic Gardens, which is just six stations away.
Transportation will always continue to improve – be faster, smoother, and convenient for the citizens in Singapore. As such, these are just a few out of the many MRT stations or even bus services you can expect in the near future.
